Last week, Self was proud to sponsor the latest event hosted by Funding the Commons, a longstanding Celo ecosystem partner driving public goods funding and research forward for the betterment of ecosystems and the communities that inhabit them.

Funding the Commons’ Forum Berlin, in partnership with Web3PrivacyNow, created the opportunity for builders and leaders throughout the Web3 ecosystem to discuss pressing, timely matters, including the importance of resilient structures, building for financial inclusion, and protecting user privacy and security.

Self co-founder Rene Reinsberg joined the Bread Cube workshop space to present “Data Sovereignty through Preserving Privacy & Verifying Identity.” In his lightning talk, Rene covered the urgent need for privacy-preserving solutions that prevent users from handing over their sensitive, personal information, as data leaks impact nearly every industry at increasing rates. He also shared his journey working on identity solutions for nearly a decade, and how innovations with zero-knowledge technology are making once lofty concepts a reality, available for users today.

In the afternoon, Celo Foundation Developer Relations Partner and Self Advisor Lena Hierzi took the Einkeller stage for the “Privacy by Design: Sovereign Identities” panel - a continuation of the “Privacy by Design: ZK, MPC, TEE” panel Self co-founder Florent Tavernier joined during Funding the Commons San Francisco. Lena spoke with Web3Privacy Now COO and co-founder PG, Stellar Development Foundation Ecosystem Growth Lead Anke Liu, human.tech Founder Nanak Nihal Khalsa and moderator Beth McCarthy from Funding the Commons to discuss different approaches to designing digital identity systems that protect rights.

Stay tuned for video recordings, coming soon to the Funding the Commons YouTube channel!

Thank you to the Funding the Commons and Web3PrivacyNow teams for hosting the event and welcoming Self as a co-sponsor. To hear more about how Self is driving the data sovereignty revolution, join us in Cannes at EthCC at the end of the month!
